Ethical issues are rearing their ugly head over this new approval to grant the treatment of twelve patients with fetal embryonic stem cells
The ethics about the use of fetal embryonic stem cells in human treatments has always been a quagmire, A first in human trial has been approved by the UK Medicines and healthcare products regulatory agency (MHRA) whilst GTAC the UK ethical advisory committee is overseeing the proposed trial. Are the benefits of putative stem cell treatments overshadowing the concerns of many ?
Well I think not this trial will help and benefit the many people who are struck down by strokes, the ethicists have clearly weighed up the benefits versus the downside. for instance when “dolly” was cloned many trembled with fears of creation of super genetic races that would not follow true to Darwins theories and result in the extinction of the human race . This clearly has not happened and in fact by having treatments like these and also our own stem cell treatments in the Seychelles completely open and transparent has quelled the worst fears of the lay public. Tissu’s stem celle treatment is the only clinic in the world where all the results whether good or bad are documented and reported in medical journals . This openess in the stem cell treatments in the seychelles has lead to it becoming the natural leader in stem cell treatments and collaborating in some of the worlds finest trials. Unfortunately the Seychelles does not permit the use of embryonic stem cells thus we have not been able to collaborate with these researchers in the UK
