Scottish researchers are being heralded as the first in the world to trial controversial embryonic treatment. Where does the Seychelles fit in?
The Seychelles has had legally approved stem cell treatment available since May 2008, but only utilising adult stem cells. Now this tiny island nation has been trumped by another tiny country, Scotland, that has just launched the first treatment trial with embryonic stem cells. Both these countries have many similarities in that both were governed by England, until Scotland recently had its own Parliament, whilst the Seychelles had a coup and broke away from England. Both have had many great leaders and proudly socialistic and nationalistic political parties. Although the differences are also very stark the Seychelles has a better climate and beaches.
